If you need a quick way to determine if you should bother setting up your telescope, or just want to know if that bright star is actually planet, this is an app youll find very useful.

Whats Up? displays the locations of the Sun, Moon and planets on a simple grid display representing the sky. There is no augmented reality, no motion tracking: just take a peek at the display and know whats up.

(For a complete 3D rendered augmented reality and motion tracking solution, please try the award-winning companion app Pocket Universe).

Slide the time-bar forwards or backwards to see if your favorite planet is going to appear soon, and from which direction.

If you already own Pocket Universe, this app is similar to the "Currently Visible" display mode, but - dare I say it - a little prettier, and quicker to use.

Features

* Displays the location in the sky of the Sun, Moon, Planets and Pluto.
* Tell at a glance which objects are good for observation.
* Moon phases are displayed.
* Link to Wikipedia Page for more in-depth information.
* Southern Hemisphere supported.
* Network support only required for Wikipedia access.

Please note: Localizations are limited to Planet names.

Pros and cons of What's Up? app for iPhone and iPad

What's Up? app good for

So simple, yet so effective and useful. And the screen is way cool. Great app!
Simple and to the point, with a really nice animation of sky objects.

Some bad moments

Great app for quickly identifying what planets are visible, or will be visible at a certain time of day.
I have a big 10" dob and it a pain to drag it outside just to find out what I want to see is not there..this app just saved me years of back pain!! Thanks again CraigDesign!!!
This app is wonderful and just as great as Pocket Universe. I really like it that it opens Pocket Universe when you tap on a planet. The only thing I dont like is that it is that the graphics are not retina-ready....yet.
Why isnt this App part if Pocket Universe, its pointless, the developer is obviously trying to boost poor sales of Pocket Universe and make a quick buck out of this app that doesnt really do anything, it doesnt even show you where the planets are, just says "its up"! And you want people to PAY for this...? Make this free, thats all its worth.. It doesnt do anything worth a cent...
A good start. Has potential. I have had problems with it not working as advertised, but app assistance was great. An update will likely correct shortcomings.
Easy to use, very intuitive. Graphics could be sharper. Would like to be able to add other objects, not just planets.
